Cohen on Caloric Restriction

Finally, a journalist that eschews all the hand-waving and awe over the "benefits" of caloric restriction and offers a more grounded perspective.

(No, not the same Cohen that I wrote about in my last post!)

I read the previous article (which was also cautious about toting the benefits of caloric restriction), but I'm happy to see this follow-up which is an excellent response. Some friends were commenting on the 'caloric restriction leads to longer life' findings; they said, "Life just FEELS longer because you're so miserable". I thought that might sum it up too.

Ha, I like what Kristina said -- "Life just FEELS longer because you're so miserable." I agree ;)

I like this perspective better as well.

I feel so sorry for Canto, having to endure this.

One thing I find interesting with CR people is that even if they are trying to live longer or whatever, they all appear much older than their chronological age and don't look as healthy at all!

I feel so sorry for Canto too. It makes me sad. I want to adopt Canto.

Hey- just found your blog and its awesome. I totally agree with this article. Plus, theres no point in living longer if you'll be hungry and miserable the whole time! I just started a blog- check it out if you have time! x

Thanks for posting that link! I was talking with my nutritionist about this today actually. She wondered if the calorie restriction craze wasn't just some new/modified form of an eating disorder.

Kristina, I love it - "life just feels longer." ;)
