Just read this the other night and loved it. I really appreciate a long, hard look at what anorexia really means to women (of course some men get it too, but this article is primarily about women). And yes it is a biological brain disease, but of course it is so much more than that. Andrew SOlomon writes something in his book about how depression, which is of course a legitimate biological mental illness, nonetheless cannot be wholly separated from a person's personality and inner self. I think anorexia is similar.
And ugh omg her parents' reactions to the author's reactions to her sister's CLEARLY disordered behaviors.....I am so happy I'm not a twin.
